A Whole New Mind, by Daniel Pink, really started me thinking about products we ask our students to give us as evidence of their learning. They are products that make sense to me (a reflection of my experiences, my age, my preferences) but maybe don't make sense to our students. How would students show me their level of proficiency in the TL if I just had them pick one of Pink's 6 Senses and one of our themes and let them go?
I just finished Dan Pink's new book, Drive - which talks a lot about intrinsic motivation. There's a great link to TED where he gives a quick summary of the book - the key really seems to be how do we motivate students to do their best - at the same time I see our role as how do we motivate our teachers to do their best?

Just reread "Drive" again this weekend on the plane and used the Pink's key concepts for motivation (Autonomy, Mastery, and Purpose) in a presentation. hmmmm, coming to think of it Autonomy, Mastery and Purpose are also the three main aspects of LinguaFolio.

Would love to explore those concepts and their role in professional development. If we believe Pink, many of the strategies that we use to "convince" teachers to participate in professional development need to be rethought if we want to effect lasting change in teachers.
