The Glastonbury, CT Public Schools is celebrating Discover Languages month with a Literary Showcase.

LITERACY SHOWCASE

THURSDAY, MARCH 3, 2011

6:00-8:00 p.m.

On Thursday, March 3, 2011, the Glastonbury Public Schools’ Foreign Language Department, a nationally recognized program, will host the third biennial Literacy Showcase at Smith Middle School.  This year’s theme “Building Global Literacy Through Languages” enables our students to discover the world through their language classroom. The Glastonbury Public School system has an articulated/sequential language program that includes the study of culture as well as language.  Through the study of literature of other cultures, its practices, products and perspectives, students integrate skills through the study of literature selections in the target language. As readers and writers, travelers and hosts, students explore new worlds and bring them home with them.  The Literacy Showcase represents one of those voyages in learning.  Our Foreign Language and English Language Learner students and teachers (K-12) will have reflected on their literary travels in order to produce these projects that promote global literacy. Through literature, our students reinforce skills learned in other disciplines such as English-Language Arts and Social Sciences.  I encourage you to attend this year’s Literacy Showcase and view the excellent work our students have accomplished in the spirit of promoting global literacy through Foreign Language.
