National Association of District Supervisors of Foreign Languages

In our efforts to expand our world language offerings we don't want our Latin program to get lost in the midst. We would like to capitalize on our district's current support of language learning and initiatives. I'm looking for resources, schools sites, districts etc... that have really innovative LATIN programs. Anyone have anything to share? :)

I'll be interested to see what others post on this topic.
I have to confess that I have neglected our Latin program. Anyone have a UBD based curriculum using Cambridge? Not sure I can pry my folks away from their texts.
I must say that Latin gets relatively little of my attention. We have done quite a bit of collaborative work and have common unit assessments for Latin 1, 2 and 3. As for "innovative", I would not claim that to be the case. The teachers are tied at the hip to the adopted text. We will be looking at updating materials...does that even make sense for Latin? I also would be interested in resources that meet the kids more where they are.
We have been working on essential and guiding questions with our Cambridge-driven Latin 1-4 curriculum. You can look at this information on the Curriculum and Instruction menu on our district website www.madison.k12.ct.us. Go to pages 239-245 of the world language program.
See you on the 17th.

wow!! Thanks so much Nancy. I have taken the Latin pages and will use them to start the conversation with my Latin folks. This has saved me MEGA time and has given me a place to start. Thanks for sharing so generously.
Nancy - W O W...thank you so much for sharing this with us! What a great resource!

I have a very creative Latin team. They are trying to think of ways to incorporate social media into their Latin classes in a way that makes learning relevant to their content but also appealing to students. We are trying to look at possibilities for Latin and other content areas as courses and also looking at what might be possible at elementary. With so much of our focus on the modern languages I'm concerned about Latin getting "lost" in the 21st century classroom. That's why I'm searching for "out of the box" ideas for Latin :)
If you are looking for the ultimate 21st century Latin classroom, look no further then the famous "TeachPaperless" classroom of Shelly Blake-Plock. While his writing is often dealing with issues bigger then Latin, he is a Latin teacher at heart and does often post ideas on how to use social media such as Twitter and other new digital resources in the Latin classroom. Just start digging through the archives on his blog at: http://teachpaperless.blogspot.com/ or follow him on Twitter.
AWESOME Thomas! Danke!!!!
Thanks Thomas! I just checked out his blog and the first entry had to do with a project on twitter. So I passed along the info to my Latin teachers and department heads as an FYI. Latin is definitely a challenge, as has been stated here.
Thomas - My teachers LOVED that blog! Thank you!!
