also, if you are using STAMP, is it primarily at level 3 or at several other levels, as well?

Andrew,
I used the STAMP test as one of the research tools to write my doctoral study. Although I was located in PA, I ran the study in a high school in California and a middle school in Rhode Island. ALL the schools needed to have was web access and headphones with microphones. (Those I purchased directly from STAMP but I could have used ones at the schools had the schools had their own headphones with microphones.)

The students in both classes were scheduled for testing in two regular 40 minute classes. If they needed to stop (because time was up), they were able to continue on another day right where they had left off in the testing.

I used the STAMP test to test 162 students. The people at STAMP were amazing and went out of their way to support me given the challenge of my trying to get data in two completely different states from where I was.

The test really DOES measure "proficiency" and not just "discrete grammar concepts."

I would highly recommend STAMP to anyone interested in testing their students for proficiency who is willing to pay the fee per test per student.

Hi Andrew, we give the STAMP to all our our Level 2 and Level 4 students. As Donna pointed out the only specialized equipment needed is the headset. We too purchased ours from AVANT Assessment, the STAMP vendor. Our schools test students in our Media Centers, a few dedicated computer labs, and using Computers On Wheels (portable laptops) and bandwidth varies greatly. We test many students (over 2,000), and while we have annual challenges we do successfully assess our students. The data has been very telling!
